Small business tax returns
The same office that prepares family returns also prepares returns for small businesses. Tell us on the phone how the business is set up, so we can ask for the right papers before you drive over.
A lot of clients on Edmonds Lane are self-employed, drive for a platform, clean houses, run a food truck, or have a shop. If you were paid on 1099s, or customers paid you directly, that income belongs on a return. Bring the records you have. A notebook, a spreadsheet, or a stack of statements is enough to start the conversation.
If you are not sure whether you are a sole proprietor, an LLC, a partnership, or an S corporation, bring the letters you received when you opened the business. We prepare the return that matches how the business is set up.
What to bring for a business return
Bookkeeping makes this visit shorter. If the books are not caught up, bring the raw records and say so when you book the appointment.
- Last year’s business return, if the business filed one.
- The EIN letter, if you have one.
- A list of money in and money out, or your bookkeeping file.
- 1099s you received, and 1099s you issued to other people.
- Payroll records, if you paid employees.
- Dates and amounts for equipment or vehicles you bought for the business.
- Any notice from the IRS or the Texas Comptroller.
Personal and business on the same visit
If you also need a personal return, bring those papers too. Say both when you call so the appointment is long enough.
For month-to-month books, see the bookkeeping page. A return is once a year. The books are what make that return possible.
